A key song from Tommy, it is sung by a doctor who explains to Tommy’s parents that there doesn’t appear to be anything medically wrong with the child and that his ailments are really psychosomatic . . . “he hears but cannot answer to your call.” In Davis’s painting, the doctor appears as Pontius Pilate declaring that he can find nothing wrong with Tommy, comparing him to Jesus Christ, another messiah.
